The HORROR And SCI-FI MOVIES & TV Of MARSHALL THOMPSON 1955-60

Today we take a look at the horror and sci-fi work of Marshall Thompson in the movies and on TV. Besides his movie career, Marshall was an avid photographer, horseman and guitarist, among many other talents. He was only 66 years old at the time of his death in 1992.

In 1955 Marshall starred along with my dream girl, Faith Domergue, in Universal's CULT OF THE COBRA. The story's about American G.I.s who trespass on a Hindu ceremony and are hunted down by a beautiful woman who has the power to transform herself into a cobra!

From 1955-6, Marshall appeared in seven episodes of SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE on TV, his first dive into sci-fi. Episodes include "The Human Circuit," "Three Minute Mile, "The Human Experiment," "Bullet Proof," "Target: Hurricane," "The Frozen Sound" and "Stranger In The Desert." I bought the complete series a few years ago and watched every episode!!

Then in 1958, Marshall stars in one of the best fifties sci-fi thrillers of all time, FIEND WITHOUT A FACE! I'm actually glad I missed this one at the theater because I was prone to an over-active imagination, especially at age 10... Freaky freakin' flick!! I do remember seeing the creepy coming attractions trailer for it though.

Paul Blaisdell is brought in to create the monster for IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE in 1959. Marshall plays Colonel Carruthers, falsely accused of killing his fellow crew members on Mars. While returning to Earth, the real monster behind the murders is revealed!

Again in 1959, Marshall stars as Commander Prescott in this unique sci-fi horror tale, FIRST MAN INTO SPACE. His brother flies into space in his rocket powered plane where he encounters a cloud of meteor dust and becomes a gruesome killing monster from Hell!

Last on the list is the TV series, MEN INTO SPACE, starring William Lundigan, airing from 1959-60. Marshall plays Major Devery in one episode. Other actors on the series include Joyce (13 FRIGHTENED GIRLS) Taylor, Jeremy (THE BORN LOSERS) Slate, Arthur (MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS) Franz, Warren (FORBIDDEN PLANET) Stevens, James (IN LIKE FLINT) Coburn, Harry (IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA) Lauter, Lance (THE SHE-CREATURE) Fuller, Gene (WAR OF THE WORLDS) Nelson, Whit (I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF/FRANKENSTEIN) Bissell, Robert (THE HIDEOUS SUN DEMON) Clarke, Tod (THE SHE-DEMONS) Griffin, Ross (THE COLOSSUS OF NEW YORK) Elliott and Charles (13 GHOSTS) Herbert!

So, stay tuned in to The Dungeon for much more Wild 'n' Weird Cargo to keep you in your happy place!

DICK TRACY TV SHOW - "Dick Tracy And Flattop" (1950)

The one and only Dick Tracy joins us tonight for another Saturday Night Special!
The "Dick Tracy" show ran for two seasons from 1950 to 1952. Tonight's show was from season one, episode 15.

I'm in a pinch for time, and when I need a break, I can always count on Dick! Dick Tracy might not have any super powers, but he is the greatest detective of all time, and compared to gentlemen like Charlie Chan, and Sherlock Holmes, that's saying a lot!

I was raised on Dick Tracy, reading about his weekly adventures in the Sunday Funnies, but those days aren't even a memory to anybody anymore!

  BAM!!

Dick Tracy and Tess Trueheart are the prefect couple! Ralph Byrd is Dick, and Angela Greene is Tess!! Ralph also played Dick Tracy on the big screen. Angela went on to be in "The Cosmic Man," "Night Of The Blood Beast," and "Futureworld!"

Tess is a bit naive when she lets the evil sumbitch Flattop into their home posing as a fellow police officer who needs to talk to Dick.

This is probably the best Chester Gould moment of the show!

Flattop is played by the marvelous John (I Was A Teenage Frankenstein) Cliff, and his mousey little accomplice named Mote is played by Pedro (They Saved Hitler's Brain) Regas!

The big boss man is called Namgib and is played by George (Drums Of Fu Manchu) Pembroke!

Dick Elliott as Dick's sidekick Murphy questions one of the locals in his search for Dick! That's a lot of Dicks! Dick had a total of 378 acting credits so you're likely to see him in anything from the 40's or 50's!

In The End, it's a triple double cross, and there's no way that's going to turn out to be a happy ending for any of the bad guys!! Just the fact that they would even try to mess with Dick Tracy just proves how ignorant lowlife gangsters really are!!

PREHISTORIC WOMEN / Seven Arts Productions, Hammer Films - 1967

Here's a little tale about David, a jungle guide that's kidnapped by a tribe of natives who want to sacrifice him to their white rhino god. Just as he's about to be killed he's thrown back in time to a kingdom of brunette women who have blonde slaves! David rejects the advances of Queen Kari and sides with the blondes, which leads to him being imprisoned.

This thing stars Martine (DR. JEKYLL & SISTER HYDE) Beswick as Queen Kari, Edina (THE BLACK TORMENT) Ronay as Saria and Michael (HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR) Latimer as David.

David is out exploring an area he's not familiar with and comes across this carving of a white rhino on the ground! But, what does it mean, George?!..

It's not long before some natives show up and David becomes their prisoner, now what?!

He's taken into a cave where he's ready to face death. Inside, he notices a large carved white stone rhino confronting him.

David's ass is saved when Queen Kari shows up and claims him for herself! She's especially attracted to him because of his dark hair, I'd say!

Kari gets first place with this move in the yearly Cave Girl Dance Off spectacular!

But, wouldn't you know it, David falls for blonde slave girl, Saria! So, what do you think might happen if Kari discovered the love triangle?.. Exac-tik-takily!!

We're sick of being freakin' slave girls!!

Anyway, the girls get to ride the white rhino, but, will David get back to the modern world, or, will he end up trapped in the past? Watch the movie to find out...

Last thing up is a lobby card from the original movie with that title, this one's from 1951 and was filmed in vibrant Cinecolor! Tune in tomorrow for more cool junk for your measly soul...

THE LOST DREAM - "Little Audrey" (1949)

Halloween is officially over, and now it's time to move on to Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then before you know it, it will all seem like a dream, a sorta lost dream!
Interesting concept, but aren't all dreams lost?

Because if you found a dream, then it would be reality, right?
Dreams are Ying Yang Catch 22! You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't!
I guess that's why we love them so much!

Dreams are the alternate universe of our minds, and a pretty wild concept if you really think about it!
Audrey dreams of peppermint stick forests!

And she dreams of riches!

And a prefect world!

After visiting Audrey, this little dream got sidetracked, and missed the boat back home!

Audrey and her lost dream travel back to Dreamland together!

So we all fall asleep and go to Dreamland every night, and if we don't, after a certain amount of time, we will either go crazy or die! Even though dreams aren't real, they're even more important than reality, and if your dreams come true, then I hope they weren't nightmares!

Even in Dreamland, somebody's got to do the dirty work!

Mr. Sandman is the Boss!

There are fields of dreams, and leagues of dreams, day dreamers and dream chasers!
The greatest achievement of each day just might be - "To sleep, perchance to dream!" - Bill Shakespeare!

The dark side is that there are also, faded dreams, and broken dreams, and bad dreams, aka nightmares!

Hey, The Boss said don't go near the black door!!!
What the Hell is wrong with you Audrey?

Luckily for Audrey, it was just a dream!
